Attached is a circular letter issued by the Department of Environment on 8 July 2011 regarding minimum notice for retirement. This letter is likely to apply to firefighters who may be considering retirement before next February (2012).
Those retiring before that date will receive the pay rates and pension entitlements in existence prior to the introduction of the "paycuts" in recent years.
(I assume those retiring on health grounds will not require three months notice and will also qualify for the "supplement" paid to those retiring on health grounds).
Please ask your relevant local authority whether this notice applies to retained firefighters and ask them to circularise the membership immediately to ensure that all are aware of the consequences of this circular.
